Gisele Bündchen Gives a Glimpse into Co-Parenting With Tom Brady: ‘I Can Only Control What I Do’

Co-parenting with ex-husband Tom Brady has taught Gisele Bündchen an important lesson: kids are adaptable. The supermodel opened up about sharing custody of kids Benjamin, 14, and Vivian, 11, with her ex, and how she is focused on letting go of control when she can.

Different Rules

“I think there are easier days than others but I think it’s amazing that the kids…they’re super smart children. They know what they can get away with,” Bündchen, who is also stepmom to Brady’s son Jack, 16, who he shares with ex Bridget Moynahan, told Robin Robers on Impact x Nightline, per PEOPLE.

“So I think it’s natural that [our houses] have different rules and then kids just adapt,” she continued. “And they’re going to try to do what they want. And I can only control what I do. And I think for me, now is really about the balance.”

It’s such a smart way to look at it. Having different house rules for your kids than their dad does would be extremely difficult, but Bündchen is doing her best not to let it get to her, and that is admirable!

‘More Enrichment’

In the interview, she shared how she thinks it’s “wonderful” for her kids to experience time with their dad and mom separately.

“Tom has to have time with them, and I have time with them, which I think is amazing because they get to really experience more enrichment for their lives,” Bündchen added. “Two different worlds and they get to learn from two different worlds and that’s wonderful for them I think. They’re so big.”

Teaching Her Kids

In an interview with Harpers Bazaar in January 2024, Bündchen shared a little bit about how she is raising her kids. “‘The way you make your room, the way you organize and make your bed is the way you’re going to do your life,’” she recalled telling them. “‘If you’re not learning here and now, then when and with who?’”

However, her kids aren’t always receptive to her valuable life lessons. “Sometimes, I get pushback, especially because now they’re in two different homes and there are two different ways,” she explained. “But I feel like I owe it to my kids, because of what my mom taught me.”

Bündchen may not be able to control every aspect of her kids’ lives (can any of us?), but she is doing her best to set them up with a good foundation. And that’s all any mom can do!

These celebrity exes are getting co-parenting right.
