The groundbreaking HBO series Girls, which has its sixth and final season premiere on Feb. 12, went out the way it came in.

On Thursday night, Lena Dunham, Jemima Kirke, Zosia Mamet, and Allison Williams stepped out at Lincoln Center in New York City to bid adieu to the job that helped catapult all of their careers.

Created by and starring Dunham, the show broke the mold of gauzy on-screen perfection, showing young women having awkward sex, confronting haters and dealing with humiliating job situations. Not to mention, issues of race, gender and politics.

And my, how these young women have evolved, personally and professionally. And their fashion has changed with them. In 2012, Dunham wore a goth princess gown to the show’s premiere. Five years later she’s sporting high-fashion separates off the runway.

Take a look at how much these young women have morphed from the April 2012 red carpet, before the show became a zeitgeist phenomenon, to its grand goodbye, as the actresses go out as knowing, self-assured ladies with the world ahead of them.

Zosia Mamet plays wide-eyed optimist Shoshanna Shapiro. For both red carpet outings, she showed major leg, but Mamet went for sophisticated, simple and ultra-flattering Marc Jacobs this time around. Plus, the smokey eyes are on fire. And, her black Charlotte Olympia shoes are a high point (fun fact, the cobbler is actually Kirke’s cousin).

The hot-pink eyes are totally on trend for Lena Dunham, who also sported ombre hair. And her Todd Oldham dress is pure downtown edgy chic. Compare that to her tulle and sequin gown from 2012. My, how scribe Hannah Helene Horvath has grown up.

Of the foursome, Allison Williams has always been the most traditionally glamorous, equally comfortable in jeans and Oscar de la Renta. And she went back to black and white for 2017, wearing a Gabriela Hearst ensemble, Christian Louboutin shoes, and Fred Leighton jewelry. From the pants/skirt combo to the sultry pose, Marnie Michaels’s outfit is music to our ears (er, eyes).

On screen, Jessa Johansson has dealt with drug problems and one very uncomfortable sex scene with Adam (Adam Driver). In real life, Jemima Kirke is the mom of two and the epitome of feminist cool. Just look at her black and white Rosie Assoulin dress, a major step up from the ill-fitting velvet frock she wore in 2012. She’s a fan of the designer, whom she wore to the 2015 CFDA awards.
