Gigi Hadid Has Been Dismissed as a Harvey Weinstein Juror

UPDATE: Hadid has reportedly been dismissed as a potential juror in Harvey Weinstein's trial, according to Page Six. On Thursday, she appeared at the Manhattan Supreme Court for jury selection, but left just 15 minutes later, after being excused.

Judge James Burke has seen hundreds of New Yorkers as the jury selection for Harvey Weinstein's trial gets underway. According to The Hollywood Reporter, there was at least one very recognizable face in the crowd today: Gigi Hadid. The paper reports that reporters were initially told not to reveal her identity, just in case she was selected to be a part of the jury, but later, permission was granted and Hadid's involvement in jury selection became the latest detail of the trial to make headlines.

THR notes that Burke asked the approximately 120 potential jurors in attendance if they knew any of the "lawyers, any defense attorneys, or any of the people who are expected to be discussed in the case or called as witnesses." Hadid raised her hand.

Hadid explained to the judge that she has met Weinstein and Salma Hayek. Burke asked Hadid, "Is there anything about having met them that makes you unable to be an impartial juror?"

Hadid said, "I think I'm still able to keep an open mind on the facts."

CNN adds that Hadid was one of 35 jurors asked to return to court tomorrow and fill out a questionnaire.

Burke has already dismissed individuals who claim that they "cannot be fair or impartial when considering the facts of the case." Additionally, other potential jurors have been dismissed because of personal or health issues, as the case is expected to last more than two months. More people could be shown the door for sharing details on social media, something that Burke has strictly forbidden.

"Let me tell you, they may be held in contempt of court ... and face serious consequences up to and including 30 days in jail and a significant fine," he said. "So, don't do that."

Weinstein is on trial for allegedly raping a woman in 2013 and sexually assaulting another in 2006. CNN Notes that the disgraced producer has pleaded not guilty to two counts of predatory sexual assault and two counts of rape, as well as one count of a criminal sexual act.
