Giants broadcaster Duane Kuiper reveals how he broke up Ron Guidry's no-hitter on 'Old Baseball Cards'
Duane Kuiper is half of one of MLB’s most beloved broadcasting duos, along with Mike Krukow in the San Francisco Giants’ booth. He’s also a former infielder for Giants and Indians. But back on Sept. 24, 1978, Kuiper was something a little more specific — he was the man who stood between Ron Guidry and a no-hitter. Guidry gave up only two hits that day and Kuiper got them both.

On this week’s episode of “Old Baseball Cards” — our baseball-card driven nostalgia show — Kuiper reveals his secret to preventing Guidry’s no-hitter. When I talked to Kuiper, he opened a pack of 1982 Fleer and I opened some 1987 Topps.
Guidry showed up in my pack, which is when Kuiper dropped this one us: He got a hit off Guidry because Yankees catcher Thurman Munson told him what pitch was coming. How about that? And how about this? Kuiper said Guidry might not know that until he revealed it to us forty years later. (Sorry, Ron.)
