Chrissy Teigen isn’t one to disappoint when it comes to looking absolutely breathtaking on the red carpet, and her appearance at the 2016 Academy Awards was no different. The mom-to-be dazzled in a Marchesa gown, makeup by Mary Phillips of LORAC cosmetics, a cranberry-colored mani by Red Carpet Manicure, and, most notably, an intricate, messy braid created by stylist Christian Wood.
The ethereal hairstyle was actually more of an impromptu look than a carefully planned style for the star. “I wanted to create something young and fresh, with a loose feel to it, in order to counteract the structure of the studded dress,” Wood tells Yahoo Beauty. “So, me and Chrissy decided on a textured braid beforehand, but figured out specifics pretty much as I went along.”
He began by applying TRESemmé Beauty-Full Volume Touchable Bounce Mousse ($5) and TRESemmé Beauty-Full Volume Maximizer ($5) throughout damp hair, to add some body. After blow-drying, Wood sectioned the top of the hair away from the head and separated into two, one-inch sections on each side of the head.
Then the stylist created two braids running from behind the ears all the way to the ends. Once the four side braids were secured, he braided the center section, creating five braids across the head. When all five braids were complete, Wood gathered the sections and pulled them together into a low pony, taking the remaining hair and weaving the braids into a single, thicker braid.
Moving onto makeup, Phillips created Teigen’s gorgeous glow by using a base of the LORAC Sheer POREfection Foundation ($34) plus swipes of LORAC Color Source Buildable Blush in Tinge and in Vivid ($22) on the cheeks for extra radiance. Then she crafted Teigen’s sultry gaze by using the LORAC Unzipped Palette ($42) and lining her lids with LORAC Front of the Line Pro Liquid Eyeliner in black ($23).
