George W. Bush Delivered Pizza to His Secret Service Detail During the Shutdown

The government shutdown has hit the one month mark, and it seems like there's no end in sight. There's fear that food stamp funding may run out by March, and some food inspections have been halted. But in the midst of all of this terrible news, people have still been doing good. Chef Jose Andres has been helping to feed furloughed employees, and Kraft opened a grocery store in DC for government workers. And now, a former president is getting involved.

Former President George W. Bush recently posted a photo of himself delivering a bunch of pizzas to his Secret Service detail. As Business Insider reports, Secret Service agents are deemed "essential" employees, so they cannot stay home during the shutdown, and they are currently working without pay.

Bush also called for an end to the shutdown. He posted his Instagram photo with the caption "@LauraWBush and I are grateful to our Secret Service personnel and the thousands of Federal employees who are working hard for our country without a paycheck. And we thank our fellow citizens who are supporting them. It’s time for leaders on both sides to put politics aside, come together, and end this shutdown."

The current shutdown is the longest government shutdown in American history, and it is affecting around 800,000 federal workers.
