George Clooney called 11 year-old gun control activist Naomi Wadler
Eleven-year-old gun control activist Naomi Wadler is adjusting to her newfound notoriety after giving a heartfelt speech the March for Our Lives in Washington, D.C., last month. She visited the Ellen Degeneres Show and said she got a call from George Clooney ahead of the march. She recalled her and her family’s reaction to the news, saying, “I’m like, ‘Dad, George Clooney’s going to call us.’ And he’s like, ‘It’s not a big deal, honey. I’m going to Home Depot right now.’”
Wadler gave this impassioned speech.
Her speech caught the attention of people, including senators to celebrities.

With the new attention, she was asked for her autograph at a restaurant. She said, “Then I realized I don’t have a signature.”
The young activist organized a school walkout on the same day the Parkland student activists organized theirs to bring attention to gun violence after a family friend was shot and killed. To Wadler, her message is far important than a phone call from a celebrity. She told DeGeneres, “I feel way too often, black women are shot and their names aren’t remembered. And so I thought this would be a good way to get a message across.”
