If you’ve ever had ants, you know that they tend to appear out of nowhere and infiltrate your home in multitudes. While ant sticks and Raid are popular ways to get rid of them, one woman created a simple solution that’s just as effective.

According to Lifestyle Australia, a woman named Charlie posted on a Facebook cleaning page that she was sick of the hundreds of ants invading her kitchen. Followers of the page shared that they were having the same problem. So Charlie tried a genius home remedy, and shared it with the group.

Her recipe is simple: All you need is a milk bottle lid (or something of similar size), honey and borax, which is typically added to laundry or used as a surface cleaner. Here’s what Charlie did: she added just enough honey to cover the bottom of a milk bottle lid, and added borax. Then, she mixed the honey and the borax to create a syrup.

The ants are drawn to the honey in the solution. When they ingest it, they die because the borax is poisonous. Lifestyle Australia reports that other members found the solution successfully eradicated ants in their home.Another member named Nadine modified the recipe and got similar results.Instead of honey, Nadine used equal parts borax and white sugar. This recipe is more insidious because, Nadine points out, the ants walk all over it, then take it back to their nest.

If you decide to make these solutions, be sure to keep them out of reach of your children and pet since borax is poisonous.
