This Genius Bento Box Makes Meal Prepping So Much Easier for Me

This is a love story.

If you’re someone who likes to meal prep (or someone who just wants to start), you’re likely aware of the unique struggle of trying to fit multiple food storage containers in your fridge. They take up a ton of space, and if you’re trying to store enough prepared food for a few days, that can easily be five or more containers you need to find space for. This was an issue I struggled with for ages—until recently. Thanks to the food storage container of my dreams, I’ve been able to fit more food into each container and maximize my fridge space.

It’s all thanks to the bento box by Takenaka. Once I got my hands on a couple and began storing my lunches and dinners in them—full meals in each box—I found that I was using fewer containers. For instance, if I’m prepping chicken for my main and brown rice and broccoli for my sides, I’ll portion everything out per meal in my bento boxes rather than put the broccoli in one container, the chicken in one container, and the brown rice in another container. It saves fridge space, and, as a bonus, makes my meals easier to grab and heat up immediately.

The boxes are so helpful thanks to the fact that they make it easy to separate all the components of your meal. There are two levels in each box: a larger bottom level that you can put bulkier food items in and a smaller top level for things like rice and veggies. When you take the box apart, it ends up being like two food containers in one. When you want to seal it up, you just stack the containers on top of each other, slide the lid on, and wrap it with the rubber band that comes with it. This will keep the top from ever popping off, and your food safe.

They come in a number of pretty, Instagram-friendly colors, including white, gray, pink, coral, and green. And they’re also dishwasher and microwave safe—a win all around.
