WATCH: Gatlinburg Has the Longest Pedestrian-Only Suspension Bridge in America

The South has no shortage of beautiful trails. But there's always something special about walking across an adrenaline-pumping suspension bridge. Gatlinburg SkyLift in Gatlinburg, Tennessee takes your thrills to new lengths with the creation of what is said to be the longest known suspension bridge in the United States.

Gatlinburg SkyLift, a scenic chairlift in the Smoky Mountains that takes you 1,800-feet up to the top of Crockett Mountain, is owned by North American ski resort company Boynes Resort. Their 680-foot pedestrian-only suspension bridge opened in spring 2019, as the Knoxville News Sentinel reports.

Interestingly, the Knoxville News Sentinel found that a suspension bridge in Canada at Kelowna Mountain claims to span 800-feet. Nonetheless, 680-feet is still a long walk to take across a narrow suspension bridge high above the ground.

The Gatlinburg SkyLift has been in operation since the 1950s, and was recently reopened in 2017 after the 2016 wildfires struck the region. From $13 per child and $16 per adult, visitors can now soak up gorgeous Smoky Mountain scenery year-round
