'Game of Thrones' Fans Would Rather Not Be Reminded About That Final Season

Just a week or so before Game of Thrones celebrates its tenth anniversary, HBO has released a new trailer for the ever-controversial Season Eight, and damn if it doesn't make you briefly want to give that final season a rewatch. The expertly edited trailer teases out the final chapter of the groundbreaking series, showing Arya, Daenerys, Jon Snow, Sansa, Cersei, and Jaime in their most dire hours. And considering that the series has already aired, the trailer has the benefit of pulling from scenes and lines that come from the series finale itself.
For diehard viewers, the trailer may evoke some painful memories. The finale left a lot to be desired for some fans, and even left some of the main stars in disbelief. Remember when Daenerys bucked all her inhibitions from the series and went stark raving mad and burned down King's Landing? How random! That's kind of what the new trailer tries to resolve, setting up that big plot twist a bit more overtly so that maybe, when we all cave for the inevitable rewatch, we don't throw a chalice of wine at the TV while screaming, "Tell Cersei it was bullshit!"
That's not convincing every fan though. The top comment on the new trailer is "Can't wait to see how important Jon's lineage is, how they defeat the Night King, how Jamie redeems himself and what Varys' grand plan has been this whole time." Woof. Another reads, "Season 8 was like if Frodo realised he could snap the One Ring in half like a twig as soon as he reached Mordor." Some fans have even called for the whole final season to be redone, which seems insane, but considering that we just got a four hour cut of a film that came out four years ago because enough bros yelled passionately into the void, who am I to say what's possible and what's not?
Regardless of your take, let this trailer and post be a reminder of the most important Game of Thrones fun fact: Lena Headey made $1.2 million dollars an episode for standing in a window and drinking wine. Long live my queen.
