What the Full Moon in Pisces Means for You

This article originally appeared on Yoga Journal

There is no denying the power of a full Moon. We can feel the powers of a full Moon easily and without effort, unlike a new Moon’s more subtle energy. Even when we’re not paying attention, the full Moon directs our awareness to her brilliance.

Due to its strength, the full Moon can feel intense on our system until we learn how to work with it. This phase can feel jarring, causing restless and sleepless nights. When we open ourselves to the Moon’s gifts and revelations, though, our inner angst fades.

Full Moons reveal. They show us different angles of the same situation that may have been hidden before. We can look at events in our lives, emotions in our bodies, and thoughts in our minds with a new perspective. We can understand things in a new light and view them through a different lens. Through these revelations, we can fully process our thoughts and feelings to finally heal. In healing, we give ourselves a chance to let go of the past and step fully into the present.

Healing, though, cannot occur until we fully understand what we are healing. We often miss pieces of the puzzle, or they remain shadowed until we are energetically ready to receive them. The full Moon reveals what we are ready to integrate into our consciousness. It brings us important information we need in order to understand the whole picture.

On each full Moon, be open to understanding the energies involved. Invite them in so you can understand yourself on a new level and process events of your past with a fresh perspective. Each full Moon offers the opportunity to shift away from vibrations that feel heavy and restrict you. Know that it may feel challenging at first to face these things and understand them fully, but once you do, you will be free of them. It may take several full Moons, or just one night, but with intention and awareness, you can shift into any vibration you want to experience.

Full Moon in Pisces

The Pisces full Moon is a magical time with the potential for great healing and release. Pisces represents the vastness of the Universe and teaches us the interconnectedness of all beings. Symbolized by the fish and ruled by Neptune, this sign inspires us to expand our dreams and feel our internal mysticism.

Around this full Moon, our intuition and emotions are heightened. As with all water Moons, Pisces amplifies our energetic sensitivity to the world. Our subtle frequencies and vibrations become more apparent, and we have the opportunity to explore our inner consciousness to a greater degree. We can feel and understand our energetic bodies on a much more advanced level during this full Moon. We can truly see ourselves as energetic beings and start to operate in the world as not just bodies made of physical form but as a compilation of frequencies with unlimited potential and reach.

Along with this heightened energetic sensitivity, we also become more sensitive to external stimuli. The world may seem a bit louder and brighter as our senses perceive the subtleties of life in full color. It's important that you take care of yourself at this time. You may feel a bit more vulnerable and exposed. Turn your phone off, limit your interactions with people who don't understand boundaries, and give yourself time to transition from one space to another. Protect your energy and protect your peace.

What to consider during this full Moon

This Moon has much potential for transforming you, but you may miss the opportunity to evolve if you feel overstimulated. Ground your body and breath through yoga and meditation to center your energy. You may also want to experiment with other spiritual practices that help connect you to your body.

Beware of anything that feels intrusive to your energy. You may not be able to tolerate the same stimuli today as on other days. Give yourself permission to insulate yourself from the world and honor any emotions of irritation, anxiety, or resistance. Honor the way you feel and take care of yourself, and you will be more receptive to the magic this full Moon holds.

Become the observer of your conscious mind. Pisces teaches us to become the witnesses of our inner worlds. This sign aligns with principles of meditation that teach of the space between stimulus and response. When we are centered and at ease within our energy, there is space before a reaction. When we are overstimulated and overwhelmed, that space shrinks, and we can become very reactive very quickly. The more space we have between an event and a reaction, the more time we have to observe our feelings, energy, and desired reaction. We have time to process, and in that space, we can watch, or witness, all the sensations of the body instead of launching into a reactive state.

Cultivating the witness mind is one of the many gifts of meditation, and the Pisces full Moon is the perfect time to develop this space within you on a more profound level with the help of the cosmos. As you work with this full Moon, allow yourself time to process the day’s events. Watch your inner world with a curious mind. Learn from your energy and open your consciousness to new possibilities in the form of new reactions. It takes changing a response only one time to create a new pattern that can be built upon in future situations.

As you observe your energy this full Moon, you'll learn about yourself. You'll see your emotions, reactions, and energies from different angles and perspectives. Instead of being immersed within them, you will be able to step away and even rise above them, viewing them from the balcony of your life. What could once control you loses its power, and you gain the ability to react any way you desire in the moment. This is one of the ways the Pisces full Moon heals. It shows you old patterns developed from wounds, then gives you the space to detach from your pain.

When we have unhealed parts of ourselves, they tend to control us on a subconscious level. These old memories and wounds cause us to react in certain ways without conscious control. We go on autopilot and respond to current stimuli as if it were part of the past. Trauma does not know the difference between today and yesterday. When we act from our wounds, we do not live in the present moment. We live in the past. By giving ourselves space to observe our emotions and energy, we can clearly see where our reactions belong. We can choose to respond differently in a way that is healing instead of perpetuating the old wound. On this full Moon, notice what reactions are unconscious and tied to past pain. Ask yourself if they belong in the present or if a new response can be formed based on the reality in front of you.

Full Moon in Pisces with the Sun in Virgo

Over the Pisces full Moon, we are also working with Virgo's energy. These energies exist on a spectrum. On one end, we have the extreme, or shadow sides, of Virgo. On the other end, we have the extreme sides of Pisces. In the middle, we have a beautiful mix of the highest sides of both energies, where we can benefit from the compilation of both vibrations.

The key is to become aware of when we are aligned with the extreme, or shadow, sides of either vibration and shift them. We can then step into the higher realm of both energies and harness them to manifest our visions.

Pisces and Virgo, like all opposing signs, have some interesting similarities. They are both highly feminine signs, meaning they enhance our ability to receive energy. They both carry the vibrations of great healers. They are both highly intuitive and heighten our intuition.

They are also both signs of service. Virgo serves the world with its keen insights and discernment, while Pisces serves the Universe with its ability to connect all energies throughout space and time. They are also both mutable signs, helping us transition from one frequency to another.

These signs hold some differences, though, and this is where we can also find their shadows. Pisces is boundless like the ocean. It sees no separation between us and other people. Virgo knows only separation. It seeks to constantly filter, organize, and refine energy. Where Pisces can lack boundaries, Virgo can develop too many. Pisces can also become too malleable, not taking any shape, position, or perspective. It can go with the flow a little too much and end up overly passive in the world. Virgo can become too inflexible and rigid. It can seek to overly define situations. In that definition, it loses the magic of spontaneity and serendipity. Virgo can become misaligned with the flow of the Universe by trying to control it or box it in with perfectionism.

When we align with the lower vibrations of Virgo, we construct too many walls in life. We seek to organize and control every aspect of our world. We forget to leave room for the impossible and things we can't quite imagine. We become inflexible to spontaneous changes brought on by the Universe.

We also forget that we are constantly co-creating our reality with the cosmos and instead try to take charge of too many situations. We lose the ability to pause and observe the space between an event and our response. Instead, we launch straight in with our demands, need for validation, and attempts to control every outcome. We are not comfortable in the space of not knowing and, in turn, are not comfortable with ourselves. We may even become restless in our own bodies, unable to digest the energy around us.

If you find yourself aligning with the lower energies of Virgo, harness that need to control into setting up a routine of self-care. Carve out time to meditate and connect with your energy subconsciously. Seek to create space in your life and observe your reactions with compassion. Let go of the need to create a perfect life for yourself and instead embrace the chaos that is necessary to cultivate a wonderful life.

As you develop a pause before your reactions to the world, feel your intuition. Let it lead you away from logical answers and instead harness your energy to feel the path forward. Trust yourself, trust the process of your life, and know that you don't need all the answers to make decisions that move you forward. You can wander into the unknown and let the Universe surprise you with the unimaginable.

Conversely, when we align with the lower vibrations of Pisces, we become passive and lack boundaries. We merge our energy with everyone we meet and take on their pain. We become overly empathic and overly sensitive to the needs of others. We also forget to observe our reactions and instead become overwhelmed with emotions and energy. We cannot discern what is ours and what does not belong to us.

We also forgot about our power to create our lives. We leave everything up to the Universe and become passive participants. We disempower ourselves to make decisions. We also forget about our responsibility to remove internal barriers. We expect that life will flow without us having to work on ourselves to heal, evolve, and be accountable for our lives.

If you find yourself aligning with the lower energies of Pisces, spend time in deep meditation. Feel your intuition, but also feel your emotions. Feel what is yours versus what you are carrying for someone else. Also, feel your power to co-create your reality. While you do want to leave space for serendipity and magic, you also want to declare your visions to the Universe. It's important to be ok with them evolving differently than you imagined, but it's also important to know what you want in the first place.

As you meditate on a deeper level, you will gain the insight of higher consciousness, which teaches you to do the work needed to manifest your dreams while being detached from any outcome. You will also create more space before any response, enabling you to process what just unfolded and understand its higher meaning in the context of your evolution.

Look for the full integration of the higher energies of Pisces and Virgo. Seek to feel your intuition and your emotions, and become the observer of your energy. Commit to routines of meditation that help you honor and feel your co-creative power. Find the delicate balance between having just enough boundaries to protect your energy but not so many that you keep out the magic and serendipity of the Universe. Be open to this full Moon helping you expand your consciousness and realize your potential as an energetic being. You are the Universe. Let it move through you and help you manifest everything that is already yours.
