New full-service car wash wants to build on Walker Lake Road

ONTARIO ― A Cincinnati company wants to build a new, full-service car wash in the Menards/Furniture Row parking lot off Walker Lake Road, according to a zoning request submitted Monday to the Ontario Zoning Office.

The Ontario Planning Commission will hear a request for a conditional use permit and request for approval of the final site plan for Ultimate Shine Car Wash at 4 p.m. May 10 at Ontario's city hall, 555 Stumbo Road, according to Zoning Inspector Michael Morton.

Wild Partners has an option to purchase about 1.5-acre property for the development of the car wash facility at the southwest corner of Walker Lake Road and the Menards/Furniture Row entrance drive at the traffic light.

Wild Partners and Ultimate Shine propose to construct an "under roof express" car wash facility which consists of a 14,500-square foot building. The interior of the building has a 136-foot wash tunnel, employee offices, restroom, breakroom, mechanical rooms, equipment room, a supply storage room and an indoor detailing area that includes 16 indoor vacuum spaces, according to the final site plan and conditional use justification document.

Six exterior parking spaces are provided for the project, the developers said in paperwork obtained by the News Journal in a public records request.

Besides the BellStores Car Wash, north of the site, this is the only full-service car wash within the shopping corridor along Walker Lake Road, according to the applicant Robert C. Sweet, McBride Dale Clarion.

"Our team feels the proposed development is a great addition to the area. The project provides a well-designed site and building this is suitable for the 1.5+/- acre lot. The proposed use offers a service not only to the residents of Ontario, but to customers from the region that patronize the neighboring businesses," the developer stated in paperwork submitted to the Ontario zoning office.

In March, the planning commission OK'd plans for Culver's restaurant to build across from Meijer's near the BellStores gas station at 1364 N. Lexington-Springmill Road.

A new GetGo Station, planned for 979 N. Lexington-Springmill Road, got the green light from the Ontario Planning Commission in December 2022 on a conditional zoning application for the new business. The gas station and convenience store is being built at the former site of Cheddar's restaurant, which closed recently.
