You and your friends can have a social-distancing viewing party with this Netflix Chrome extension
In order to do our part and help the greater good, we need to keep our distance during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. That means no more wine-and-cheese nights, face mask-and-gossip sessions, or Netflix-and-pizza parties until further notice. That is unless you’re okay with doing all of the above through a screen. Now, thanks to a new Chrome extension, watching Netflix with your friends while practicing social distancing is a lot easier. The extension is free, easy to install, and takes the anxiety out of hitting play at the same time through FaceTime. Hey—we’ve all tried it.
The extension is called Netflix Party and it’s available to anyone who uses Google Chrome as their internet browser.
To install, you can visit netflixparty.com and hit the “Install Netflix Party” button on the top right-hand side. You’ll be taken to the Chrome Web Store where you can click “Add to Chrome.” And bing, bang, boom, you’re one step closer to having a long-distance watch party. (You’ll see “NP” in the top corner of your Chrome window when it’s ready to use.)
Next, head over to Netflix and begin playing the show or movie you want to watch with your pals who have also downloaded the extension. Then click “NP,” hit “Start the party,” and paste the Netflix link into the box to share with friends.

When you sync up, not only will you be watching the same movie or show, but you’ll also be able to chat in the box provided by Netflix Party.
Or, you know, you could FaceTime your friends at the same time. Then again, we all have that one friend who talks through the whole thing…so, you do you.
