So this recipe originally went viral thanks to a TikToker named @sovegan, who claims that with a little bit of vegan buttermilk and some seasoning, you can magically turn mushrooms into greasy, crunchy, delicious fried pieces of chicken.

OK, so here's how to make this stuff. We're going to start by creating our vegan buttermilk by combining soy milk and some lemon juice in a bowl. Then, we're tossing our oyster mushrooms in this milk and letting them sit for a little bit. Meanwhile, we're going to mix a few cups of flour with a teaspoon of baking powder plus some sugar, salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and some grilled-chicken rub.

Now, we're going to batter these boys up by coating our soaked mushrooms in the dry ingredients then dropping them into our FryDaddy deep fryer, which we've filled all the way up with some oil. All right, it's time to try these things and rate them on an overall score out of 10. Got the vegan fried chicken right here plated up. I'm just going to dig into the biggest peace I can find.

Oh, man. Wow. People are going to come after me for saying this tastes like chicken, but this stuff really does taste like fried chicken. The batter is sweet, crispy, crunchy, savory. The texture really is a lot like a fried chicken thigh. They're really convincing. You're not going to fool anyone, but if anyone's willing to try it, you could easily replace fried chicken with these things.

I'm giving this a 9 out of 10. These things are really, really, really good, and I am very pumped to be eating as much of them as possible. I definitely have won the vegan lottery.
