Frank Oz And Other OG 'Muppet Guys' Reunite for COVID-19 Charity
Four of the original Muppets performers are reuniting this weekend to honor the 30-year anniversary of the passing of the legendary show’s creator, Jim Henson. In a live-stream event, Bill Barretta, Fran Brill, Dave Goelz and Frank Oz will answer fans’ questions and reminisce on Henson’s incredible creativity and leadership.
The discussion will be facilitated by Victoria LaBalme, the co-producer for Oz’s famous documentary, Muppet Guys Talking: Secrets Behind the Show the Whole World Watched. “We wanted to lift people’s spirits and raise money for COVID-19 frontline workers,” Labalme explains.
The reunion is happening just weeks before the expected return of the beloved puppets to the big screen—the new comedy series Muppets Now will be available for streaming on Disney+ this summer, according to past reports. If you can’t wait until then to get your fill of Miss Piggy, Cookie Monster, and the crew, here’s how you can watch the live-stream this weekend.
When is the reunion?
The event will be live-streamed on Saturday, May 16 at 4 p.m. EST.
How can you attend?
Anyone with Internet access can virtually attend the live-stream. However, all guests must pre-register at muppetguystalking.com/jim/.
Is it free?
While the live-stream is free to attend, guests will be asked to make a donation to a selected COVID-19-related charity. “Jim’s work was never just about entertainment,” the event’s website explains. “There was always a generous intent underneath. In that spirit, this livestream will also be a fundraiser to help those who are on the front lines battling COVID-19.”
