Frances Bean Cobain Makes Her Modeling Debut for Marc Jacobs

It’s Instagram official (and what’s more legit than that?): Frances Bean Cobain is the face of Marc Jacobs’ Spring/Summer 2017 campaign.

On Wednesday, Jacobs shared a black and white photo of Courtney Love and Kurt Cobain’s daughter in a frilly peasant-esque dress with a lace bib and pearl buttons. The dress features a high neckline and sparkles woven into the busy pattern.

The actual dress, which features pink and periwinkle floral patterns, with rows of pink sequins in between panels of flowers, went down the runway at Marc Jacobs’s Spring 2017 show in September.

Clearly, the designer is thrilled to be working with Frances Bean, who he’s known since she was just 2. “I have always wanted to work with Frances. Her beauty, uniqueness, and strength is something I have long admired and respected,” he captioned the photo. “Few things remain as constant as my continued inspiration from those whose honesty, integrity, courage, and curiosity lead them to explore and venture beyond preconceived boundaries,” Jacobs gushed of the 24-year-old.

And while this is a huge steppingstone, Cobain, who considers herself a “visual artist,” has no plans to become a supermodel. “I don’t think I’ll be modeling for anybody else for a very long time — this is 100 percent outside my comfort zone,” the 24-year-old told Vogue. “I wouldn’t have done it with anyone other than Marc.”

That’s because she doesn’t model unless she thinks the project is “cool,” as she put it, and nothing is cooler than a fresh Marc Jacobs line. “I don’t put my name behind something that I don’t genuinely believe in,” she proclaimed. “I thought this collection was great, and I was flattered that Marc thought of me for this. What I said to Marc when I was saying yes was that he’s an underdog for the masses. He’s still very rebellious within the fashion world, and he’s been like that his entire career.”

In the first photo for the campaign, Cobain’s hair is dark and messy, with a few pieces out of place. Her dark lips and brows stand out. “The shoot had a very organic feel — all the makeup was my own. We used the lipstick from right out of my purse, and no one did anything to my hair. They just put me in the clothes,” she said of the experience.

In December 2016, Daily Mail spotted Cobain shooting the campaign in downtown Los Angeles, Calif. She modeled a similar dress in white covered with a blue, pink, and red sequined coatigan. For those shots she wore sunglasses, knee socks with pearl details, and brown suede clog-like platforms. The look is straight from the Spring 2017 Ready-to-Wear runway show. In another shot, she modeled the collection’s oversized camo jacket and sky-high platform boots.

Clearly, Cobain prides herself on being authentic and relatable. “I’m not representing the beautiful top models of the world,” she said. “I’m representing what a general, standard, average human girl would look like wearing these clothes. I think that’s why Marc picked me for this.”

She added, “I could never do [modeling] professionally, but I’m glad I did it with Marc, because I trust him,” Cobain told Vogue. “Thankfully I have other skills than just standing there and looking cute.”

Seems like a great fit.
