Fox News claims that Melania Trump is treated more harshly than Michelle Obama

It’s a FLOTUS face-off.

Fox News correspondent and former Real World: San Francisco star Rachel Campos-Duffy launched an impassioned defense of Melania Trump in response to Jimmy Kimmel’s ribbing of the first lady this week.

The talk-show host’s jokes were blasted as “despicable” by Fox News columnist Karol Markowicz, while Campos-Duffy said it’s systemic of how Mrs. Trump is treated in comparison to her predecessor, Michelle Obama.

“Michelle Obama was the first black first lady of the United States,” Duffy-Campos, who is married to Wisconsin congressman Sean Duffy, said during her appearance on Fox & Friends. “She was treated by Hollywood and the media like royalty.

“Melania also broke barriers. She was the first immigrant first lady since the early 1800s, and she’s doing a fantastic job. There’s never a kind or encouraging word. They never give her any credit; they never give her her due — not even on what’s unquestionable.

“Does anybody doubt that she’s the most fashionable first lady we’ve ever had?” she continued. “Last year Vanity Fair named Michelle Obama, while Melania was first lady, [to the] best-dressed list. They left Melania off, which to me is an outrage as well.”

While Jackie Kennedy, and Obama fans, may find that last point up for debate, the current first lady has indeed faced scrutiny for her husband’s policies, her previous comments questioning Barack Obama’s citizenship, and her cyberbullying initiative, which critics have considered hypocritical.

But Fox News may have trouble convincing the public that Mrs. Obama was treated “like royalty” based on its own harsh coverage.

An October 2017 editorial called the former FLOTUS “condescending and out of touch,” for instance.

“Isn’t Michelle Obama adorable?” wrote Liz Peek. “She actually thinks she is a typical woman in the United States and that she can speak for all of us.”

In 2014, contributor Keith Ablow poked fun at Obama’s weight during an appearance on Outnumbered.
