Now that Renovation Island is airing its third season, some fans have noticed that, in promoting the series, Bryan Baeumler often mentions Island of Bryan. While some folks thought it was just his cheeky nickname for the show, it’s actually the name of the series in Canada. But that begs the question, why is Renovation Island called Island of Bryan in a different country—why not just keep the same name worldwide?

To the surprise of many Americans, Renovation Island actually premiered in Canada first, where it had a successful run on HGTV Canada. It wasn’t just popular, either. According to an HGTV Canada press release, the first four episodes of Island of Bryan were “the most-watched individual episodes of any program on the network in over 10 years.”

Naturally, after such success, the show got picked up by HGTV America and, as a result, earned itself a new name. However, in the process, it never lost its old Canadian name, so the show is known around the world as both Renovation Island and Island of Bryan, which can be confusing for some folks but is a no-brainer for die-hard HGTV viewers.

No matter what you call it, Renovation Island follows the Baeumler family as they transform a once run-down Caribbean resort into what is now known as the Caerula Mar Club. While still the subject of a major television show, the resort is open to the public—so long as you’re willing to spend a pretty penny to enjoy the stay. If not, there’s always the opportunity to watch the latest episode of Renovation Island on HGTV. The show airs on Sundays at 8 PM ET.
