It's the first film in the series he doesn't star in.

David Arquette had a hard time watching the newest installment of the Scream franchise—the first of six films in which he wasn't featured.

The actor's Deputy Dewey Riley survived four massacres throughout the series, but his character wasn't so lucky in Scream 5, leading to a certified case of FOMO—or fear of missing out—when he sat down to view Scream 6 for the first time.

“It was hard for me to do it," he told Variety at the premiere of his new Peacock series, Mrs. Davis, "but I also knew I wanted to see it.” Ultimately, he said, “I loved it.”

But even though the trip was worth it in the end, it wasn't easy to sit through. “It was sad," he added. "I had lots of FOMO.”

Arquette also spoke with the publication after the release of his final Scream film, where he talked about processing the scene after he read the script for the first time. “I put it down. I took a deep breath. It was sad. I mean, it’s something that I’ve been a part of for so long. So I had to process that,” he said at the time.

Filming the scene was also difficult, especially given that it was shot during the height of COVID. "...so it’s harder to have that connection with the crew because you’re not hanging out after work,” he said. “So I did the scene, I went to the hotel, and I just kind of sat with it. Then I packed up and left. It was a big portion of my life coming to a close and a lot to process.”

Besides Arquette, Neve Campbell was noticeably absent from the latest rendition, as the original star backed out due to a discrepancy in pay, leaving Courteney Cox as the last star standing.
