Pageant winners Miss Argentina 2019 and Miss Puerto Rico 2020 have revealed that they have been in a relationship for two years and are now married.
The couple, Mariana Varela (Miss Argentina) and Fabiola Valentín (Miss Puerto Rico), posted a reel compiling moments from their relationship to Instagram on Sunday. “After deciding to keep our relationship private, we opened the doors to them on a special day,” Valentín wrote, adding the date October 28, 2022, with a heart, a sparkle, and a ring emoji.
In a comment, Varela wrote, “Thanks for all the love! We are very happy and blessed 🙏🏼 ❤️ I wish you that the love you are giving us is multiplied! Endless thanks.”
While they’ve been keeping their relationship under wraps, the couple have posted their fair share of soft launches over the years. In August, Varela posted selfies with Valentín, captioning the post, “A summer with you.”
The beauty queens have also posted pictures of each other in matching dresses at events, as well as previous reels hinting at something more than gals being pals. In a January reel, Valentín wrote, “Life brought us together again!” along with the Argentinian and Puerto Rican flags. “It was a long wait, but the great moments we get to create will always be greater. How sad it is to have see you later again, but how blessed I am to have a being in my life like you.”
The newlyweds’ public union comes two years after they met at the 2020 edition of Miss Grand International, an international beauty pageant. It also follows reports that Anne Jakkaphong Jakrajutatip, a Thai trans businesswoman, acquired the Miss Universe franchise for $20 million.
No one should really be surprised by the fact that pageants are actually kind of gay as hell, considering that there’s very little functional difference between the kind of hyperexaggerated femininity on display in that context versus, for example, a drag show. In the timeless words of Billy Eichner, let’s go lesbians!
