Former first daughter Barbara Bush gets married in Maine after a 5-week engagement

Former first daughter Barbara Bush is a married woman.

The 36-year-old daughter of former President George W. Bush and Laura Bush — who was named after her paternal grandmother, former first lady Barbara Bush — married screenwriter Craig Coyne on Sunday, People reports.

The bride wore a custom Vera Wang ivory silk crepe gown with a cowl neckline for the intimate ceremony at the Bush family home in Kennebunkport, Maine. Blue earrings from her sister served as her “something blue,” while her “something borrowed” — a bracelet given to the elder Barbara Bush, who died this spring, as a 70th wedding anniversary present — was a touching tribute to her grandmother.

The couple kept it a family affair, with 94-year-old grandfather (and former POTUS) George H.W. Bush in attendance, aunt Dorothy Bush Koch officiating, and twin sister Jenna Bush Hager serving as matron of honor.

On the Today show on Monday, correspondent Bush Hager, who wore a floral-print, off-the-shoulder dress for the ceremony, opened up about the sentimental speech she gave. She shared that she drew inspiration from her paternal grandparents’ marriage.

“We’ve been excited to do such a small wedding with just our family,” her newlywed sister told People of the wedding, which had just 20 guests.

The Kennebunkport location has a special significance for the couple, who got engaged there just five weeks before their wedding. Bush and Coyne first met on a blind date last November.
