For former Bachelorette, blogger, and mother of two young kids, Ali Fedotowsky, spending time in her garden has been a saving grace during quarantine. "I feel like I have no reason to complain whatsoever," she tells Woman's Day, going on to explain that she is thankful that her family has stayed safe and healthy during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Still, she admits she occasionally finds herself in a bit of a Groundhog's Day mindset.

"If I do start feeling the quarantine blues, I make myself go outside and enjoy the sunshine," she says. Whether that's a pool playdate with her kids or getting dirty in the garden she planted when she first started sheltering-in-place, being outside helps her reset her mind, gain some perspective, and get back to neutral. "Gardening has been my pride and joy over quarantine," she says. "I feel like a crazy old garden lady."

Fedotowsky's garden is doing more than just giving her some peace of mind during a public health crisis, though. Since she's spending all day at home with her family, she's constantly prepping for the next snack time. "I feel like I'm a snack machine," she laughs. As a fun activity, she's found a way to get her kids involved in the gardening process, too, and they can often be found picking various vegetables and herbs to include in their snacks. Sometimes they'll pick some basil to make a walnut parmesan spread that's become a go-to recipe in her house. "It makes this amazing spread, and I'll put it on a crostini; they love it," she says. "If I make a small batch my husband gets upset because he feels bad like he’s taking my stuff, but he loves it, too."

And though life at home can be a bit monotonous for a 4- and 2-year-old too, Fedotowsky finds ways to make snack time feel a little more special for her kids. "Molly loves her lunchbox, and we got Riley one too because he was jealous Molly had one," she laughs. "So sometimes I'll fill up their lunchboxes with PB&J and cheesy bunnies and a little treat, and they'll sit at the little table in their play area, and I think they really enjoy it."

With their preschool closed during the pandemic and its reopening date uncertain, Fedotowsky finds joy and satisfaction in making small moments special. "It's the little things we do," she says.
