Come 2020, Brenton Cox will have played for both Georgia and Florida in the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party.

Days after he put his name in the transfer portal after he was reportedly dismissed from Georgia, Cox has transferred to Florida. The move was first reported by Rivals’ Gators Territory on Friday and he’s now listed as part of Florida’s roster.

Per UGASports.com, Cox was dismissed from the Bulldogs on Sunday. He had been arrested in April for misdemeanor marijuana possession and was facing a team suspension, though it wasn’t known what, if anything, that had to do with his dismissal.

No. 2 strongside DE in 2018

Cox was a valued member of Georgia’s vaunted 2018 recruiting class. A former five-star recruit, Cox was rated as the No. 2 strongside defensive end in the class by Rivals. A Georgia native, Cox was also rated as the No. 5 prospect in the state. Florida was one of the schools that recruited him in 2018, but he opted to stick with Georgia after visiting both UGA and Alabama.

Cox played in 13 of 14 games for the Bulldogs in 2018 and notched a tackle when Georgia beat Florida last season. Cox finished the season with 20 total tackles; his best game came in the Sugar Bowl loss to Texas when he had six tackles.

Cox will have to sit out the 2019 season because of the NCAA’s transfer rules, but he can redshirt and have three more seasons of eligibility with the Gators.
