[Update] Ford delays many Bronco hardtop deliveries again, this time until 2023

2021 Ford Bronco hardtop reservation holders who were holding out hope for good news, well, we're sorry to disappoint you, but the wait is going to be even longer than we all feared, with the 2023 model year now being Ford's target for bringing color-matched hard top options to production. The latest update comes care of a Bronco6g user who shared a copy of the official email from Ford earlier Friday.

"Hardtop roof timing has taken another hit: our black, contrasting white, body color painted modular and dual top roofs will now arrive in the 2023 model year. Until then, we can offer the carbonized grey molded in color hardtop as the only hardtop option for 2 and 4-door Broncos," the email says.

This dealer communication summary was also posted, outlining which options are currently available for order and when production is expected to start:

What roof options are available Broncos? See attached Updated Bronco Roof Options guide for a breakdown of each roof option, also available within the Bronco Dashboard → Additional Resources → Vehicle Information.

Why is the painted roof now pushed to late next year as a 23MY option? We are working as fast as we can to try and get through the hardtop roof Bronco bottleneck. We originally intended to build roughly 80% hardtops and 20% soft tops. That ratio is now closer to 60% hardtops and 40% soft tops. Our roof supplier is doing this by focusing all efforts on producing as many molded in color (MIC) hardtops as possible. The other versions of the top will come late next year. Our goal is to build as many customer Broncos at the highest quality this year.

Ford had previously warned customers that it was going to delay production of those color-matched tops until the 2022 model year. Our friends at Hooniverse posted the original in its entirety both on their own site.

"You've been patient," it reads. "And we thank you for that. We've been doing everything we can. Through the pandemic. Through unprecedented demand. Through supply-chain hurdles and countless other things you don't give a damn about. All you want is a Bronco."

"The reason this email is down to the wire is because we've been doing everything we possibly can to avoid the need to send it," it continues. "This launch has scuttled our best intentions and assumptions, so we want to set things right by talking to you straight: we are not yet able to give you a delivery timing update."

So, more bad news for (hopeful) owners who have already heard plenty of it. Ford assured reservation holders that it will update them as the status of their orders change; when that may happen, however, is anybody's guess.
