Foo Fighters Announce Their First Album Since Taylor Hawkins's Death

Foo Fighters have been through a lot in the past year. Back in March 2022, the band tragically lost their longtime drummer, Taylor Hawkins, after he suddenly died before a performance in Bogota, Columbia. He was 50 years old. Now, Dave Grohl and co. have announced their the first new music since Hawkins's passing. Titled But Here We Are, Foo Fighters' eleventh studio album will debut on June 2, 2023 via RCA.

The new record is a "brutally honest and emotionally raw response to everything Foo Fighters endured over the last year," according to the group's press release. "But Here We Are is a testament to the healing powers of music, friendship and family. Courageous, damaged and unflinchingly authentic." Foo Fighters also released their first single, "Rescued," which runs "the emotional gamut from rage and sorrow to serenity and acceptance, and myriad points in between." The opening lyrics of the track, which may reference Hawkins's death, state: "It came in a flash, It came out of nowhere/It happened so fast, and then it was over." You can listen below.

It has yet to be revealed if Grohl played the drums on the upcoming record, if someone else has permanently filled in the role, or if the songs contain material that Hawkins previously recorded with the group. "But Here We Are is the sound of brothers finding refuge in the music that brought them together in the first place 28 years ago," the press release continued, "a process that was as therapeutic as it was about a continuation of life." At the end of last year, Foo Fighters held two tribute concerts for Hawkins, featuring appearances from artists such as Stevie Nicks, Paul McCartney, and Elton John. The band plans to continue touring, beginning next month.
