Florida tumbles in NET rankings after Texas A&M loss
Florida basketball was upset on its home court Wednesday night when the Texas A&M Aggies came into the O’Connell Center and sneaked away with a 66-63 win. After losing another nail-biter to the Auburn Tigers on Dec. 28 in the Southeastern Conference opener, the Gators find themselves in an 0-2 hole in SEC play as well as stuck in neutral with an even 7-7 record.
Before the game, Todd Golden’s crew ranked No. 66 in the NET rankings, which are updated each day to reflect the results from the previous evening. After the tumultuous tumble to TAMU, Florida fell to No. 75 on Thursday. The Orange and Blue also slid in ESPN’s Basketball Power Index, falling to a modest No. 45 ranking.
Florida now has an 0-5 record in Quadrant 1, 0-1 in Quad 2, 1-1 in Quad 3 and 6-0 in Quad 4 games.
Next up for the Gators are the Georgia Bulldogs who will make the trek from Athens down to Gainesville on Saturday with former Florida head coach Mike White at the helm for a 1 p.m. EST matinee affair. Despite a tidy 11-3 record entering the matchup, UGA currently ranks No. 106 in the NET and No. 91 in the BPI.
