Florida State RB Jacques Patrick 'most likely' out for the year
Florida State will “most likely” be without one of its top offensive players for the rest of the season.
Per Warchant.com, Jimbo Fisher said in a Monday morning radio interview that running back Jacques Patrick tore cartilage in his knee during Saturday’s loss to Louisville and “most likely” will not return to the field this season. Fisher said later on Monday that Patrick will have surgery.
Patrick, a junior, has been FSU’s starter at the position all year, but splits carries with freshman Cam Akers.
Through six games, Patrick has 434 yards and a touchdown on 76 attempts along with 13 catches for 88 yards. Akers, the No. 3 overall recruit in the 2017 class, leads the team with 454 yards on 87 carries, though his average (5.2 yards per carry) is slightly below Patrick’s (5.7). Akers had 75 yards on 16 carries while Patrick registered 70 yards on 14 tries on Saturday. Akers registered his first two 100-yard performances in FSU’s previous two games: 121 yards in the loss to Miami and 115 yards in the win over Duke.
Sophomore Amir Rasul, who has 26 yards on seven carries, is the only other running back to carry the ball this season.
FSU, which has been playing without starting QB Deondre Francois since Week 1 because of a knee injury, dropped to 2-4 on the year with Saturday’s loss, a 31-28 decision. The Seminoles travel to Boston College on Friday night and need to win four of their last five games to keep the program’s streak of 35 straight seasons in a bowl game alive.
