The Flaming Lips Hold Concert With Audience Members in Individual Plastic Bubbles

The Flaming Lips held a socially distanced concert in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on October 12, with each audience member encased in an individual plastic bubble.

Footage uploaded to Instagram by @dayzieee shows a crowd of people in plastic spheres at the show, performed at The Criterion.

“We have people in these space bubbles,” Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne said in an interview with Brooklyn Vegan prior to the concert.

“I mean, it seems absurd, but we at first were just doing it as not a joke, but just as a kind of funny thing. And now it’s becoming kind of serious and real. I think that’s kind of the dilemma we’re all in is that are we waiting for it to go back to normal? Or are we starting to plot, what’s the future look like? What is the future of live music?”

According to Setlist.fm, they performed two songs, as the short gig was “half test run for future concerts, half music video shoot.” Credit: @dayzieee via Storyful
