TOLEDO -- Flag City Honor Flight has added a third trip this year.

FCHF’s mission is to bring veterans of all eras to Washington, D.C. to see the memorials built in honor of wars. Priority is given to World War II veterans. Flights depart from Toledo Express Airport.

An All-Vietnam Veteran Flight, sponsored by Ohio Logistics, was just announced for Nov. 1. Approximately 80 to 85 Vietnam veterans will be on the Nov. 1 flight.

More than 400 area Vietnam veterans are on the waiting list for a flight, Bob Weinberg, president of Flag City Honor Flight said. Some have been waiting for more than six years.

“We’re excited at the thought of addressing our Vietnam veteran waiting list, and so grateful to our friends and supporters at Ohio Logistics for their generosity in making this a reality,” says Weinberg.

FCHF’s first flight of 2022 was June 7. The second flight is scheduled for Sept. 13. Both of those were standard flights, serving veterans of all eras. Only the November flight will be all-Vietnam.

Flag City Honor Flight hopes other corporate sponsors will come forward to sponsor an entire flight.

FCHF relies on donors, fundraisers and benefits to support the mission. FCHF is a non-profit organization that has organized a trip each June since 2010. A second annual trip was added in 2017. This year is the organization’s first time offering three flights.

“Flag City Honor Flight welcomes veterans from across northwest Ohio, but will take any U.S. veteran and coordinates with other Honor Flight hubs to provide that opportunity,” the organization said.

Veterans who want to apply for a flight can visit flagcityhonorflight.org. The organization also can be reached at info@flagcityhonorflight.org.
