Female Shooter Kills Three in Maryland Rite Aid Distribution Center

A female shooter has killed three people in a Rite Aid distribution center in Maryland before shooting herself twice, CNN reports.

According to a source close to the investigation who spoke with CNN, the woman was a disgruntled employee. After shooting others, she attempted to kill herself and was unsuccessful. The shooting happened at a distribution center roughly 30 miles from Baltimore. It is unclear whether the woman was a Rite Aid employee or not.

"Based on what we know right now, and at this point this is preliminary, the lone suspect in this incident is in custody and is in critical condition at a local hospital," Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler said in a press conference. At that time, he did not indicate the gender of the shooter, but CNN has since reported that it was a woman.

There were no shots fired by the law enforcement officers on the scene. Gahler also indicated that the attacker carried out the shooting with a single weapon, a handgun. Law enforcement officers do not believe there is any additional threat at this time.

Susan Henderson, a spokesperson for Rite Aid, said that roughly 1,000 people work in the facility. "The shooting happened adjacent to the primary building," she said. "What I understand is the location is secure."

Maryland Governor Larry Hogan tweeted his support for the victims of the shooting, writing, "We are closely monitoring the horrific shooting. Our prayers are with all those impacted, including our first responders. The state stands ready to offer any support."
