This Feel-Good Movie from the ’90s Is (Surprisingly) Ranked #2 on Netflix

Remember Big Daddy, the ’90s movie starring Adam Sandler? Well, it’s officially making a comeback.

Big Daddy just worked its way up to the number two spot on Netflix’s list of most watched movies. While it’s currently behind American Murder: The Family Next Door, it outranked a slew of noteworthy titles, including The Outpost, Colombiana, Yogi Bear and Enola Holmes.

So, what’s all the hype? We’re not entirely sure, since the movie isn’t new to Netflix. Perhaps Big Daddy was featured in a popular category—like “Trending Now”—which prompted the surge of users. But what do we know?

Regardless, the film tells the story of Sonny, a slacker who has no desire to change his easygoing lifestyle. However, when his girlfriend suddenly breaks up with him, he devises a plan to prove his maturity. This includes caring for a 5-year-old boy. Naturally, comedy ensues.

In addition to Sandler (Sonny Koufax), the movie also stars Joey Lauren Adams (Layla Maloney), Jon Stewart (Kevin Gerrity), Rob Schneider (Nazo), Leslie Mann (Corinne Maloney), Jonathan Loughran (Mike), Allen Covert (Phil D’Amato), Peter Dante (Tommy Grayton), Kristy Swanson (Vanessa), Joseph Bologna (Lenny Koufax) and Cole and Dylan Sprouse (Julian).

Big Daddy, which originally premiered in 1999, was directed by Dennis Dugan (Grown Ups). Sandler wrote the screenplay alongside Steve Franks (Psych: The Movie) and Tim Herlihy (The Wedding Singer).
