Zayn Malik took aim at the Grammys in a tweet ahead of the ceremony on Sunday. "F*ck the grammys and everyone associated," he wrote on Wednesday night. "Unless you shake hands and send gifts, there’s no nomination considerations. Next year I’ll send you a basket of confectionary."

Zayn's latest album, No One Is Listening, did not receive a Grammy nomination this year, but it's not that he got snubbed. The window to be nominated for an award closed at the end of September and No One Is Listening was released in January, meaning it was not eligible for a nomination at the 2021 awards, but it could be nominated for 2022.

Because of this, many assumed that Zayn was simply taking the opportunity to throw some shade at his former One Direction bandmate, Harry Styles, who was nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album, Best Pop Solo Performance, and Best Music Video, and will be performing at the awards on Sunday.

"I agree with you but let’s not act like you’re not jealous of Harry being nominated!!" one fan tweeted.

Another said that if Zayn wasn't directing his tweet at Harry, he should have been more careful with his wording.

"His post does imply that everyone else who was nominated kissed a*s and paid for a nomination," another person wrote. "It may be true for some of the artists (because come on we all know what goes on) but it's still throwing everyone under the bus."

Some Zayn fans then came to his defense, saying that not everything he does relates back to One Direction.

Zayn later clarified his tweet, saying it "was not personal or about eligibility," meaning he knows his album couldn't have been nominated. Instead, it "was about the need for inclusion and the lack of transparency of the nomination process and the space that creates and allows favoritism, racism, and networking politics to influence the voting process."

Many are upset with the Grammy nominations this year following the news that The Weeknd didn't receive any nods despite "Blinding Lights" being the most streamed song on Spotify last year. Some are even saying Harry was snubbed because, while he received three noms, he didn't get any recognition in the categories of Record, Album, or Song of the Year. Zayn, though, was seemingly calling out a deeper issue, one that is not related to this years snubs or nominations.

The Grammys air Sunday at 8 p.m. ET/5 PT on CBS.
