A Rapper Was Behind The Frog On 'The Masked Singer,' and Fans Knew the Whole Time

From Woman's Day

After weeks of entertaining fans, the Frog was eliminated from The Masked Singer on May 20, coming in third place to the Turtle and Night Angel on season 3. After his identity was revealed, he joked that he didn't even think he'd make it as far as he did. But he did get to finale night and stood a real chance of going all the way, he just had some stiff competition.

When his mask was finally taken off, many fans recognized the rapper who'd been wearing it all season. Even two of the judges guessed his identity right in the end. (No, Ken Jeong was not one of them.)

So who is the Frog?

There were a couple of theories all season long from fans who thought the Frog could have been Fresh Prince of Bel-Air star Alfonso Ribeiro and the judges who floated guesses like Kid Cudi and Lil' Romeo. In the end, though, Robin Thicke, Nicole Scherzinger, and most of the viewers at home got it right. The Frog was Bow Wow.

Ever since the Frog's first clue package, fans were convinced that the hints were all pointing to rapper Bow Wow. The 1996 Olympics poster was a reference to the home of the '96 Olympics, aka Atlanta where Bow Wow lives. And the 106 dollars shown was a clue about 106 & Park, a show Bow Wow hosted. A couple of clues also pointed to Bow Wow's filmography. A basketball, lightning bolt, and the number 23 pointed to Like Mike, where Bow Wow's character gets struck by lightning and plays basketball in the number 23 jersey. And the movie Lottery Ticket got a nod from an ice cube tray clue which was a hint about Bow Wow's co-star in that film, Ice Cube.

Then there was also a March 4 clue that hinted at Bow Wow. Frog gifted guest judge T-Pain a friendship bracelet that read "All We Do Is Win." Though neither lent their vocals to the 2012 hit, the duo did collaborate on another 2012 hit, "Better." On April 22, the Frog's bag of clues a keyboard with the letter "I" and "L" blocked out — these two letters spell "lil" like how Bow Wow used to go by Lil' Bow Wow. There was also a Japanese flag, which we thought was a nod to the Japanese band called Bow Wow, but it was actually a hint about The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, where Bow Wow had a role.

Then there was the clue about a Little Frog, which turned out to be a reference to Bow Wow's daughter Shai, whom he joked would be disappointed that he didn't win the show. Finally, the Frog revealed a model jet as a clue to his identity. Judge Robin Thicke pointed out that, in 2017, Bow Wow posted a photo of a private jet with a caption claiming that was his regular mode of transportation. But, as the internet discovered, it was a fake photo.

As for all the Prince references, it seemed to be pointing to Bow Wow's single "Prince of Darkness." If all the clues flew over fans' heads, though, there was the fact that the Frog just sounded exactly like Bow Wow.

Basically, with the mountain of evidence, everyone should have seen the Frog's identity coming from a mile away. And many did! Most fans, plus Thicke and Scherzinger got this one right on the nose. Better luck next season, Jenny McCarthy and Ken Jeong.
