Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio is a spectacular treat for the eyes, mind, and heart that will inspire thoughtful speechlessness.
Del Toro's stop-motion animated version of Carlo Collodi's timeless tale of boyish misadventures is a godsend after what I feel was Disney's shoddy money-milking farce that came out a few months before. This movie is not only surreal, joyful, and beautiful but also poignantly magical as it follows Pinocchio's peregrinations. There are some very relevant political messaging as well.

Del Toro and Gustafson’s Pinocchio rules. I saw someone saying “wow it’s not a kids film!” and I’m not sure what they mean. Its entirely appropriate, nourishing even! It’s so refreshing to see something not talking down to kids. And it’s just as funny and light as it is dark.
13.I was afraid the falling axe may injure Geppetto.
This is one of my favorite examples of Del Toro's Pinocchio playing with tone. You have this big freak of nature wreaking destructive havoc around this broken man, & yet it's presented as a lighthearted, innocent musical number. And this contrast ends up being key to the story.

I love Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio, but but my personal biggest surprise is that the movie has given us something I'd never thought I'd say: Tom Kenny Mussolini

So glad people are loving the new Pinocchio. I was enjoying it well enough until the last 10 minutes or so, which shattered me and then put me back together again. What a perfect and profound ending.
