Plenty of interviewing missteps can cause job seekers to miss out on an offer—however, one woman claimed Taylor Swift nearly "cost" her a job.

On Monday, March 4, a TikTok user and self-described Swiftie recounted how her recent job interview went down.

"Taylor Swift almost just cost me getting a job, and I'm not joking," she explained. "At this interview, she just asked me a lot of different questions than I've ever really been asked. Which I actually thought was really cool. And one of the questions she asked was: 'If you could have dinner with someone tonight, anyone dead or alive, who would it be and why?'"

The TikTok user explained her first thought was her grandfather, who died a few years ago. Her second thought was Swift, but she hesitated. "I just had this gut instinct to not say that," the OP shared. "And I don't know why, I just thought, 'Let's just not.'"

Although her third choice was Michelle Obama, she opted with a less political answer and chose author Glennon Doyle. The interviewer replied that she was "glad" the candidate didn't say the pop superstar.

"She's like, 'I had this young girl and she said Taylor Swift, and I just thought, you know, that's a cute answer but like, we're just trying to get something more deep than that,'" the TikTok user recalled. "Which, I do not agree with. I think Taylor Swift is a very deep lyricist. But don't need to get into that, doesn't need to cost me a job, that's fine."

She concluded: "I was just so glad that I followed my instinct and didn't say Taylor Swift."

In the comments, TikTok users defended answering the question with the "All Too Well" songstress. One person wrote, "Honestly I know it's hard to get a job right now but if someone makes a hiring decision based on Taylor Swift.. they don't belong hiring!"

Another TikTok user declared, "The flags are red, gigantic and blowing in the wind. Taylor Swift didn't almost cost you a job. A Dumb hiring manager almost cost you a job."

Another person commented, "dinner with time magazines person of the year is an entirely respectable answer by any measure," while another pointed out, "Taylor Swift is a woman, a billionaire, business woman, a brand, a musician, a lyricist, world famous. She would have been a tremendous answer."

Meanwhile, other TikTokers shared how different their job-interviewing experiences were. One wrote, "I mentioned liking Taylor Swift in my last interview and the manager was like 'oh we have a few people that would agree with you back there.'"

Another shared, "I interviewed for a job where the conference rooms were named after Taylor Swift albums. Some companies get it right 😎."
