  • Drew Barrymore’s viral video of her dancing in the rain is inspiring fans to lean into life’s simple pleasures.

  • “Whenever you can, go out into the rain. Do not miss the opportunity!” she said while laughing in the heartwarming clip.

  • Fans loved the genuine moment, and are happy to see Barrymore happy, given that the actress didn’t have an easy upbringing.

Over the last few days, Drew Barrymore’s name has become synonymous with dancing in the rain. On Sunday, the actress shared a gleeful video of herself embracing nature’s shower, encouraging others to do the same—and fans are taking her advice.

In the viral Instagram clip, the Scream star steps out into the rain and immediately begins to belly laugh, lifting her face to the sky. “Whenever you can, go out into the rain,” she tells the camera. “Do not miss the opportunity!” Fans and followers were clearly touched by the genuine, childlike moment, as the video racked up over 7 million views on Instagram and 13 million on TikTok.

“I can FEEL the energy here and it’s divine,” one TikTok commenter wrote. “Your inner child must be so grateful for you right now 🧡,” another added. “This is pure joy,” someone else wrote.

The video even inspired some to experience the bliss for themselves. “It finally rained today so I lived my Drew Barrymore fantasy,” one person tweeted. “Just went out in the rain like Drew Barrymore,” another wrote via Twitter.

And unfortunately, as with any viral internet moment, the video got some hate, too. But many were quick to defend Barrymore’s joy, explaining its poignance given her tumultuous past.

“Drew Barrymore is a person who absolutely didn’t think she would make it to 47 and now everything is just wonderful and special to her, including standing in the rain, and honestly we need more of that positive energy in the world,” one fan tweeted. “I’m old enough to remember rehab stints and endless trauma Drew Barrymore. If she wants to enjoy some damn rain let her do it,” another wrote.

At age 13, Barrymore went to rehab for addiction, per her 2015 interview with The Guardian, and by 14, she was emancipated from her parents and legally made an adult.

“I really had a fear that I was going to die at 25,” she recalled. But she was always able to hold onto a sliver of hope. “No matter how dark sh*t got, I always had a sense that there should be goodness. I never went all the way into darkness. There were so many things I could have done that would have pushed me over the edge and I just knew not to go there.”

These days, she’s just as determined as ever to find the good in life. The star recently told Prevention that she’s “a constant work in progress” and that she is always trying to better herself. “I’m psyched when I do drink 100 ounces of water a day. It does happen. There are days I exercise and there are many I don’t. I try to eat very healthily, I get in really good stones and rhythms, and then I get in total porker with my remote control and my Postmates app.”

Despite the stresses of daily life, Barrymore is taking the time (at least the length of a TikTok video) to embrace what the world has to offer. The now 47-year-old really does seem to be leaning into life’s simple pleasures, like dancing in the rain.
