Kelly Clarkson is once again proving that she's one of the best vocalists of our time. On Wednesday, The Voice coach and American Idol winner kicked off the 2020 Billboard Music Awards with an epic cover of Steve Windwood's "Higher Love."

Clarkson sang a remake of the world-famous song alongside Pentatonix and legendary singer and percussionist Sheila E. "That was crazy fun," Clarkson said after they finished singing. "Music connects us to each other. From virtual living room dance parties to neighborhood balcony concerts, music unites us."

The Voice coach shared a clip of the spectacular performance to Instagram. "Dang! It felt so good to be back on the @BBMAs stage," she captioned the post. "Thanks for kicking off the night with me @ptxofficial, @SheilaEdrummer, virtual choir, and background vocals! ❤️ There are so many amazing performances coming up so stay tuned in to the show on @NBC!"

Fans literally could not get over how amazing the performance was."Y'ALL SLAYED HIGHER LOVE!!!! 😍😍😍😍," one fan wrote, while another person commented, "KILLED IT!!!" Someone else jokingly said, "How can you open the show and expect anyone to enjoy the rest of the show when you MURDERED IT?!"

In addition to Clarkson's vocals, fans also praised the star's golden goddess ensemble as she stunned in a sparkly gown and gold earrings. The singer also had long luscious blonde extensions in, which really completed her look.

"You look amazing🔥😍🙌❤️," one fan wrote. Another person said, "Kelly u look so beautiful." Retweet!

"Higher Love" was originally created by Windwood in 1986; however, the iconic late Whitney Houston covered the song as a bonus track on her 1990 album I'm Your Baby Tonight. In 2019, Norwegian DJ Kygo remixed Houston's cover into a new rendition, and the song was nominated at the 2020 Billboard Music Awards for Top Dance/Electronic Song.

Although Clarkson's recent cover was more in line with Windwood's version, The Voice star previously opened up about being inspired by Houston throughout her career. She's covered other of Whitney Houston hits, including "How Will I Know" and "I'm Every Woman."

"I know every Whitney Houston song," she told Rolling Stone in 2012. "I wanted to cover one of her songs at our shows as a tribute, but it's hard to cover her!" Well, in agreement with Clarkson's fans on Instagram, we personally think the American Idol star absolutely crushed "Higher Love."
