Fans Question Gigi Hadid's Skin Tone on the Cover of Vogue Italia

What's going on here?

Gigi Hadid took to Instagram Wednesday afternoon to share her newest cover shoot with Vogue Italia. And while this may be Gigi's 27th cover of a Vogue magazine it might be one of the more controversial.

In the shot, Gigi is shown sitting on a model Justin Martin's lap covering his face with her hand. She's wearing a Dolce & Gabanna embellished jumpsuit, long chandelier earrings, and a crown.

What's really turning heads in this cover, however, is her skin tone. As many fans in the comments pointed out: it's much darker than usual.

Most of the initial reactions were of people expressing their confusion, but they quickly turned into something more. "Unrecognizable.. curious w/ the whole story," one fan replied. "Is she suppose to look “ethnic” cause no... lmao," someone else inquired. Another person blatantly expressed, "Completely different person; she looks like a completely different race."

Of course, many of Gigi's fans came to her defense, saying that they loved the photo and claimed that it is part of her job. "She's just doing her job. Love it!@gigihadid," one said. "Haters gonna hate hate hate."

This isn't the first time in recent months that a celebrity or brand has been accused of darkening skin tones. Just a few months ago, Kim Kardashian redid her KKW Beauty campaign photos to reflect her skin color more accurately after she was met with criticism.

At this time Gigi has not posted any reactions to the comments on her post.
