Just days before Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's sit-down interview with Oprah, a suspiciously-timed article has dropped about Meghan. On top of palace aides accusing the duchess of bullying (which she has denied in a statement), the Times reports she wore a pair of earrings back in 2018 that were allegedly gifted by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman—who was recently found by U.S. intelligence to be responsible for the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

The fact that Meghan is being called out for wearing these earrings (at a state dinner in Fiji three years ago) right before her tell-all has understandably drawn a lot of criticism. Especially since—per The Telegraph—Meghan's lawyers say she was unaware there was any speculation that the Crown Prince was involved in Khashoggi's murder when she wore them.

Supporters of Meghan have hopped on Twitter to defend her and point out the hypocrisy at play here compared to how other royal controversies have been handled:

Again, Meghan has also been accused of "bullying" by palace aides. Her rep released a statement on the matter, saying, “The duchess is saddened by this latest attack on her character, particularly as someone who has been the target of bullying herself and is deeply committed to supporting those who have experienced pain and trauma. She is determined to continue her work building compassion around the world and will keep striving to set an example for doing what is right and doing what is good.”

A statement was also given to the Times, saying, "Let’s just call this what it is—a calculated smear campaign based on misleading and harmful misinformation. We are disappointed to see this defamatory portrayal of The Duchess of Sussex given credibility by a media outlet.”

Reminder: Meghan will be sitting down for an interview with Oprah on March 7 (though FYI, it was recorded ahead of this latest palace drama).
