After fans expressed serious concern over photos circulating of Shakira riding in an ambulance en route to the hospital in Barcelona, Spain over Memorial Day Weekend, the Grammy winner took to Twitter Saturday to explain.

Though thankfully the 45-year-old is well and healthy, she admitted that photos were taken of her in an ambulance after her father had an accident that sent him to the hospital. The Hips Don’t Lie singer posted two photos to her Twitter account, the first a typed-out message in both English and Spanish and the second a sweet, intimate photo of the star and her father.

“Guys, I’m getting a lot of messages of concern that I was seen in an ambulance in Barcelona recently,” the singer wrote in the first of the two Twitter images. “I just wanted to let you know that those photos are from last weekend (the 28th) when my dad, unfortunately, had a bad fall and I accompanied him in an ambulance to the hospital where he is recovering now.”

Though we’re grateful the star is okay, she continued her post to ask for fans to keep her father in their hearts. “Please do send all your best wishes his way, and thank you all as always for all of your love & support,” she wrote.

The second photo in the post is a heartwarming picture of her kissing her father, William Mebarak Chadid, on the cheek while he wears a hospital gown and has bandages covering his bruised face. The singer looks full of love for her father, who seems to be in good spirits.

Fans flooded her Twitter from all over the world with well wishes and concern for the pop star and her family. “How are you, queen? You have the whole universe worried about you. We love you,” one fan wrote in Spanish. “Wish your dad a speedy recover,” another wrote. “Many blessings to Mr. William and speedy recovery,” others chimed in.

The news comes at the same time as Shakira and her boyfriend of 12 years and professional soccer player Gerard Piqué announce they are splitting up. The two are parents to two sons, Milan and Sasha.

In a joint statement, the couple said, “We regret to confirm that we are separating. We ask for privacy at this moment for the well-being of our children, who are our maximum priority. Thank you in advance for your understanding and respect.”

We wish the star’s father a speedy recovery, and Shakira and her family well during this difficult time.
