Fans Celebrate Mariah Carey After Earning First Tony Nomination

Mariah Carey is officially a Tony nominee!

The "Always Be My Baby" singer, 54, is a first-time Tony nominee after the Broadway musical adaption of Some Like It Hot was put up for Best Musical at the 76th annual Tony Awards.

Carey serves as a producer on the production, that was first a film starring Marilyn Monroe in 1959.

When she signed onto the project, the singer gushed over her love for the late actress, stating, "I first became familiar with this story through the timeless film starring Marilyn Monroe. She’s been an important touchstone throughout my life, so much so that I acquired her treasured baby grand white piano at an auction."

"When [producer] Neil Meron shared this new take on the beloved film, I knew I had to be a part of it," Carey continued. "To see how this show continues to expand on the film’s legacy – pushing boundaries, promoting inclusion, celebrating diversity – I’m proud to help bring Some Like It Hot for today’s world to new audiences."

After fans heard the news of Carey becoming a first-time nominee, they took to Twitter to congratulate the singer on her big accomplishment!

"I am so f*cking PROUD OF HER!" one fan gushed.

"Congratulations @MariahCarey!! She is now a Tony Award nominee! I'm proud of you," another fan wrote.

One fan predicted the nomination on April 24, when they tweeted, "mariah has a chance to win a tony award thanks to 'some make it hot.'" They then followed up with another Tweet once the news was announced, stating, "mariah carey tony awards nominee."

"Let’s get this Tony Award, my Queen @MariahCarey! Congratulations on your nomination! We’re all so incredibly proud of you!! We love you!" another fan gushed.
