Family Dollar Recalls Several Lines of Advil Products

If you bought Advil at Family Dollar within the past year or so, it's time to check your bottles.

The nationwide chain of discount stores recalled various Advil products after it said certain over-the-counter (OTC) drugs were stored outside temperature requirements.

Per the drugmaker's website, all medications must be kept between 68 degrees to 77 degrees. But according to the statement shared with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on May 4, between June 2022 and March 2023, Family Dollar stored a select variety of Advil products "outside of labeled temperature requirements." These products are now being recalled.

The affected lines of OTC medications included in the recall are listed below:

  • 200MG TABLET 100CT

  • ADVIL 200 MG CAPLET 24 CT

  • ADVIL DUAL ACTION 36CT CAPLET

  • ADVIL TABLET 50CT

  • ADVIL LIQUID GEL 40 CT

  • ADVIL TABLET 6CT

  • ADVIL LIQUI GEL MINIS 20CT

To be clear, the recall only affects products purchased at Family Dollar discount stores between June 1, 2022 and March 31, 2023. Customers can find recalled products' specific batch and SKU numbers on the FDA website.

Though Family Dollar did not release a list of stores the now-recalled products were sold at, it did say it notified the affected stores and asked staff to discontinue selling and remove any affected products from shelves immediately.

Anyone who purchased an affected product is urged to return it to Family Dollar, even if they no longer have the original receipt.

At this time, the chain of discount stores has not been made aware of any consumer complaints or reports of illness related to the recall. The company and the FDA advised anyone who consumed the recalled product and experienced adverse reactions to contact their healthcare provider and report it to the FDA's MedWatch Adverse Event Reporting program online or by downloading this form and sending it back via mail or fax at 1-800-FDA-0178.

Customers with specific questions regarding the Advil recall can contact Family Dollar Customer Service at 844-636-7687 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. EST.
