Nancy Pelosi delivered her 8-hour filibuster in 4-inch heels: 'TOTAL BOSS'

Nancy Pelosi made history on Wednesday when she spoke on the House floor for a record-setting eight hours. And while it’s hard to argue for more than 15 minutes just sitting down without getting tired, Pelosi did the entire thing standing. In four-inch heels, no less.

The 77-year-old House Minority Leader made a filibuster-style speech on behalf of young undocumented immigrants known as Dreamers, who might be left unprotected if a new stopgap spending bill goes through. Pelosi spent eight hours and seven minutes speaking about this and urged Speaker Paul Ryan to consider legislation to protect Dreamers.

This is not the same as when state Senator Wendy Davis filibustered a restrictive abortion bill in the Texas Capitol in 2013 for 11 hours. One, she wore sneakers for that (pink Mizuno sneakers). And two, according to the New York Times, such a long speech is unheard of in the House, “which has no equivalent to the Senate filibuster.” Pelosi set the record for the longest continuous speech in the chamber, “dating to at least 1909, according to the House historian,” the Times reported.

While the words coming out of Pelosi’s mouth were incredibly moving — she read aloud from letters that Dreamers had written to their representatives, pleading with Ryan to commit to the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program — the shoes on her feet also made a statement.

Twitter was impressed that Pelosi stood and spoke for this long in a pair of shoes that many wouldn’t have been able to walk down the street in.

Some pointed out that standing in heels is much more uncomfortable than walking in them and compared Pelosi to Wonder Woman. One user called her a “goddess.” Others noted that not only did she do all this in heels, but she also didn’t use the bathroom or consume anything but a little water during her time on the floor. Other public figures like Arianna Huffington commended her while suggesting she give herself a break with some “kitten heels” next time.

Some pointed out that this was not only a major moment for Dreamers, but for women as well.

While she could not confirm the brand of the black suede pointy-toed pumps, Taylor Griffin, press secretary for Pelosi, did confirm to Yahoo Lifestyle exclusively that they were as high as they looked: 4 inches. And that “she never once stepped out of them during her 8 hour and 7 minute speech.”

Not even the slightest lift of a heel to give her feet some much-needed respite. Because Pelosi had more important things to worry about: like the people out there in much more uncomfortable positions that needed her to plead for their protection.
