From Town & Country

Sheryl Sandberg, COO of Facebook and author of Lean In, shared some happy news today: she's engaged to her boyfriend Tom Bernthal, the founder of consulting firm Kelton Global—and, yes, the brother of actor Jon Bernthal.

The two have reportedly been dating since last spring, after being introduced by Rob Goldberg, a friend of Bernthal's and a former brother-in-law of Sandberg's. (The Facebook executive's late husband, Dave Goldberg, died at the age of 47 in 2015.)

"Both of them have gone through loss, and just because you have gone through loss doesn’t mean you aren’t entitled to happiness and joy again," Rob Goldberg told People. "They both came out of hard times of their lives still happy and motivated to make their lives better and their kids’ lives better." Sandberg has two children from her marriage to Goldberg, and Bernthal shares three kids with his ex-wife.

"They both see the world in the same way. Their kids are No. 1," Goldberg continued. "They are blending their families and their lives and that’s a testament to how in love they are. They’re building a future going forward together."

So how, exactly, did Bernthal pop the question? "They took a hike together on their very first date, so they recreated the moment and got engaged at the end of a long hike this past weekend," a source told People. The same insider revealed that the ring featured five hidden diamonds underneath the setting, representing their five shared children.

Sandberg shared the news this afternoon with a post on Instagram, featuring a black-and-white photo of the happy couple. "Engaged!!! @tom_bernthal, you are my everything. I could not love you more," she wrote. Famous friends, from Arianna Huffington to Katie Couric and Kate Bosworth, were quick to comment with congratulatory messages.
