We all know that the Kardashians are no stranger to a bit of drama, but the latest instalment has seen things take a legal turn, as they've finally come face-to-face with Rob Kardashian's ex-partner, Blac Chyna (who is also the mother of his daughter, Dream), in court. But why is Chyna suing the Kardashians for $100 million?

It's a bit of a lengthy story, but fear not – we've done the digging and have created a handy timeline to keep you in the know about all the important details of the case, which sees Chyna attempting to claim vast amounts of money for what she says is a loss of past and future earnings after her and Rob's reality show, Rob & Chyna, was cancelled prematurely (something she alleges Kim and Khloe Kardashian, and Kris and Kylie Jenner played a part in – and which they deny any wrongdoing over).

This is the history of Blac Chyna and the Kardashians' feud (starting with the most recent update first):

28 April 2022

Rob Kardashian took the stand at trial to recall the terrifying moment he says Blac Chyna put a gun to his head, strangled him with a phone charging cable and hit him with a metal bar while drunk and high on drugs.

"She strangled me, she put a gun to my head twice, she was on cocaine and alcohol," he told the court at the $100m lawsuit. But reports say that Kardashian raised his voice and became agitated following questioning from his ex-girlfriend's lawyer. "Did you have as much as a Band-Aid on you?" Lynne Ciani asked. "I just told you it didn't leave a mark on my face!" he replied. "And the gun to my head two different times during the night didn’t leave a mark to my temple!"

Earlier in the day, Chyna testified that she was never violent towards Kardashian, instead claiming that on the night in question they had been celebrating their TV show getting a second season – however, she says the party turned sour when Kardashian accused her of speaking to other men and took her phone to check her texts. Chyna claims she wrapped a phone charging cable around his neck playfully because he was ignoring her, and jokingly picked up an unloaded gun that he kept in his bedside table.

A photo of Rob's arm (easily identifiable by his tattoos) around a cosy-looking Chyna is shared on the model's Instagram account, accompanied by a caption reading 'the beginning'. Why is this such a big deal? Well, err, quite awkwardly Chyna shares a son named King with Tyga, Kylie Jenner's then-boyfriend – and of course, Rob is Kylie's older brother. Just to make things extra confusing, at this point Kim and Chyna had also been spotted hanging out from time to time, since around 2013.

In response to the relationship, Khloe posts a seemingly cryptic tweet about never going "against the family" but claims it's not meant for anybody in particular.

The following day, Rob moves out of Khloe's place and in with Chyna, appearing to show his allegiance is with Chyna over his family who (many speculated) were not in approval of his relationship. TMZ claims the move happened after Khloe found the couple at her house surrounded by "liquor bottles and trash". So basically, things between Chyna and the Kardashian-Jenner clan were messy from day one.

Rob proposes to Chyna with a blingy diamond ring worth $325,000. She accepts and they celebrate with Chyna's mom, Tokyo Toni, at a strip club. As you do.

6 April 2016

The couple share matching Instagram posts indicating that Chyna is pregnant. A few months later (11 September 2016), grandma-to-be Kris Jenner will share the news that they're expecting a baby girl.

11 September 2016

The first episode of Rob and Chyna's aptly titled reality show, Rob & Chyna, airs on E! to a very 'meh' response from viewers. It promises to let audiences in on the couple's relationship as they prep to become parents together (with the birth being the season finale). Kim Kardashian, Kris Jenner and Ryan Seacrest are listed as executive producers alongside Rob and Chyna.

28 September 2016

In a pretty random move, Rob Kardashian tweets his half-sister Kylie's phone number, claiming she didn't invite "the mother of my child," Blac Chyna, to a baby shower they were throwing for him.

10 November 2016

Rob and Chyna welcomed their baby girl into the world, a daughter named Dream Renée. Some fans claim that in 'tricking' Rob into having a baby with her, Chyna has pulled the ultimate 'revenge' over the Kardashian-Jenner clan, out of retaliation for Kylie getting together with her ex, Tyga.

10 December 2016

Reports circulate that Kim, Kourtney and Khloe have tried to block Chyna from trademarking 'Angela Renee Kardashian', which would become her surname if/when her and Rob were to marry. According to TMZ, papers submitted by the sisters say that other Kardashian family members would "suffer damage including irreparable injury to their reputation and goodwill" should Chyna begin using their surname.

14 December 2016

It's announced that E! have renewed the series for a second season comprising of eight episodes, with a slated air date of summer 2017.

17 December 2016

Rob shares a string of Instagram posts claiming Chyna has left him and taken their daughter Dream with her. In a Snapchat post Rob says, "She knows how to hurt me and I loved her so hard like I'm supposed to. Like any man is supposed to love their Wife. Chyna knew exactly what she was doing to get me. I can't believe she did this to me. And this isn't for some ratings this is my real life so please understand I'm just being open right now."

8 March 2017

According to both Us Weekly and People, reports claim season two of Rob & Chyna has been put on hold in wake of the couple's split (but suggests filming had already begun). E! offers up a vague statement in response saying: "We are continuing to shoot with all the family members, and are covering Rob and his relationship with Chyna."

5 July 2017

Rob Kardashian takes to social media and shares numerous intimate and explicit images of Blac Chyna, without her consent, in a horrific example of revenge porn. He also shares a video of making out with another man, who he says Chyna cheated on him with, and screen grabs of messages exchanged between the two of them.

10 July 2017

Chyna instructs her then-attorney, Lisa Bloom, to pursue a case against Rob for his actions and a temporary restraining order in granted. According to Chyna, she sent a video of her with the other man to Rob by way of getting him to "leave her alone", remarking that she and Rob have been separated since December 2016.

She adds, "I am in fear of this angry, volatile, vindictive man, who has physically attacked me and tried to humiliate me so publicly. I am embarrassed by his posts. I ask for orders of protection so that I can live my life in peace and free of fear of him."

28 September 2017

Rob sues Chyna for assaulting him, alleging that she tried to choke him during an argument with a charging cable in December 2016, according to reports The Blast.

17 October 2017

Documents are published online showing that Chyna is making moves to sue the entire Kardashian family [this is the case presently on trial]. She accuses them not only of hampering her earning potential by cancelling Rob & Chyna, but of sabotaging her brand and image. Again, she accuses Rob of being physically and emotionally abusive towards her – something that he later denies, saying in court documents that Chyna "did not suffer any injury or harm as a result of any conduct" in relation to him.

13 February 2020

Chyna admits, via her lawyer Lynn Cianni, that she did wrap a charger around Rob's neck but denies it was with the intention of choking him. Instead, she claims it was done "jokingly" and that afterwards "they had fun together". As per Hollywood Life, she also confesses to ripping his shirt on that same date in December 2016 but says she cannot recall if that happened before or after the cable incident.

8 December 2020

A judge rules that Blac Chyna has the rights to the unaired footage from Rob & Chyna season two, and orders Bunim/Murray Productions (the company who created the show), to hand it over.

18 April 2022

Jury selection begins for the trial, running into a few stumbling blocks along the way – namely in the form of potential jurors flagging that they'd struggle to keep impartial and ensure the trial is fair, due to either having preconceived notions of Chyna, the Kardashians or the Jenners. It's reported that Kris, Kylie, Kim and Khloe attended court together, but Kourtney and Rob weren't present.

19 April 2022

Michael G Rhodes, representing the Kardashians and the Jenners in the case says that the reason Rob & Chyna was cancelled was due to Chyna's violent behaviour towards Rob. He also cited, according to TMZ, the restraining order put in place between Chyna and Rob (at her request) making it impossible for the pair to film together – and that's why their reality show was cancelled.

When addressing the court, Rhodes said that in December 2016, Chyna allegedly had to be physically separated from Rob by Kris' boyfriend, Corey Gamble, during an overly heated exchange. He adds that Corey advised Rob to grab his keys, license and leave Kylie's home where the altercation took place and that Chyna threw a chair at Rob's car as he drove away.

Rhodes also noted that the jury will later be shown evidence of Chyna's alleged phone cord attack and that she's previously pointed a gun at Rob's head.

Chyna's lawyer, Lynn Cianni, also told the court that they would be presenting evidence, including text messages sent by Kris to a Rob & Chyna show runner saying, "Take her off the show". Chyna's team are also accusing the Kardashians of lying about Chyna, inventing incidences of violence and harming her reputation (and thus her earnings).

25 April 2022

Kylie Jenner is the first of the Kardashian-Jenner siblings to take the stand in court and, according to TMZ, claims that Blac Chyna previously sent her threatening text messages, peppered with devil emojis. Kylie also states that she believes Chyna possibly pursued Rob out of spite, as she was dating her ex, Tyga, at the time. "I just felt like maybe me dating the father of her child maybe had something... maybe she was just with my brother for other reasons. I don’t know. That's just my opinion," Kylie calmly told the court, adding that she hoped not, for Rob's sake.

To that note, the make-up mogul also claims that Tyga once told her that Chyna "slashed" him with a knife, resulting in a 6-inch scar on his arm - "That’s what I heard, yeah," Kylie shared (Chyna's lawyer then asked if Kylie had any further evidence that the scar was a result of Chyna in any way, to which Kylie replied 'no').

When asked by Chyna's legal team if she had concerns about her brother dating the model, Kylie replied, "I felt it was my duty to express my concerns, but ultimately it was up to him."

When questioned as to whether or not Chyna had ever physically threatened her, Kylie replied, "I remember one time I woke up to some texts from Chyna, some threatening texts. She sent me a bunch of devil emojis and said something along the lines of like, 'counting down the days' to either beat me, or, I don't know exactly what she meant."

Kylie later explained she believed Chyna to be 'high' when she sent the messages, as they were delivered in the early hours of the morning, and she alleges that Tyga had informed her about Chyna apparently having a substance abuse problem. "I took it as an empty threat, really. I honestly assumed she was probably high because I got the text really early in the morning."

Speaking about her own relationship with Chyna, according to Rolling Stone, Kylie said that she had hoped - despite all the messy drama - that her and Rob could work out. "Did I welcome her [to the family]? Yeah. I think that we had an OK relationship for a while. I actually wanted to be cool with Chyna. I spent a lot of time with her son and despite everything, I actually did want it to work out for my brother."

27 April 2022

Kim Kardashian has testified in court that she does not recall trying to have Blac Chyna and brother Rob Kardashian's TV show cancelled. However, Kim admitted to demanding that Chyna was kept off the KarJenner family's hit series – Keeping Up With The Kardashians – after hearing that Chyna had allegedly abused Rob.

"I will not go into a toxic work environment. On my own show, I have the power to do that," she told the court.

At the hearing, Chyna's attorney, Lynne Ciani, read out a series of text messages allegedly sent by Kim to a producer at Bunim Murray (a production company that produced both shows). In one message, Kim referenced her desire for Chyna to no longer be a part of KUWTK, saying: "I think we all need to take a break from filming at this point until we figure out what’s going on. She is not going to be on our show. So if you guys are going to film with Rob and Chyna, then you are going to lose the Kardashians and Jenners."

Kim said that she did not remember sending the texts, but told the court: "This definitely sounds like something I would say." She also claimed that the recipient of the text only worked on KUWTK, not Rob & Chyna, and emphasised that one of her text messages – which read: "No one listens to us, no one respects us" – showed that she and her family had no power over the shows' producers or the TV network. She added that the only power the family did have was to withhold their own involvement: "I have a right as a cast member to say we really need a break."
