We’ve all been there: you check into a hotel expecting a relaxing experience, but you’re met at every turn with guests who seem determined to ruin your day.
It’s this universal problem that inspired Expedia to conduct a hotel etiquette study to pinpoint the most annoying hotel guest behaviors. The travel site asked 1,022 Americans to rank the frustrating and quirky behavior exhibited by their fellow hotel guests, and the results will surely hit close to home for any frequent traveler.
At the top of the list is inattentive parents, with 67 percent of respondents saying that kids running wild without adult supervision is their biggest pet peeve. In other words, you might think that little Johnny’s energy is adorable, but the other hotel guests are secretly giving you the side eye.
In a close second, 64 percent of Americans are frustrated with “Hallway Hellraisers,” a.k.a the people who insist on using their outside voices right outside of your hotel room.

And rounding out the top three, 54 percent of respondents get annoyed with “The Complainers,” otherwise known as the guests who berate and belittle the hotel staff over minor inconveniences.
According to John Morrey, vice president and general manager of Expedia.com, the takeaway from the survey should be to always consider how your actions affect others.
“A modicum of consideration for your fellow travelers can go a very long way and may ultimately enhance your overall travel experience,” he said in a statement.
