The Spider-verse’s web is getting a lot bigger! There’s a new super who will be spinning her way to Sony’s ever-growing universe, and her name is Madame Web. Whether she’ll be a hero or a foe remains to be seen, but the character does have a rich history in the Marvel comics, so it’s not too surprising to see her finally get a movie. But with so many Spidey movies out there and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we can’t help but wonder just how this will shape up.

Here’s everything you need to know about Madame Web, from its star-studded cast to its plot and release date.
Is there a trailer for Madame Web?
There sure is! The first official trailer for Madame Web dropped on November 15, 2023, and in it, we see Dakota Johnson, Sydney Sweeney, Isabella Merced, and Celeste O'Connor kick ass and run around eerie diners, Grand Central Station, and NYC in general. Oh, and it's set to the tune of Billie Eilish's "Bury a Friend." Name something *more* iconic, I'll wait.
When is Madame Web coming out?
While its trailer gives us an ambiguous "Coming Soon" at the end, the movie originally had a reported release date of October 6, 2023. It has since been moved back a couple of times due to the Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Since both strikes have ended, The Hollywood Reporter notes that the premiere date for Madame Web is now February 14, Valentine's Day 2024.
Who is Madame Web?
If you’re not that well versed in the Spidey comics, Madame Web is actually a mutant who has the ability of telepathy and clairvoyance. She first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #210 back in November 1980.
Madame Web’s real name is Cassandra Webb, and she’s put on a special life support system that looks like webs after she becomes ill with a neuromuscular disease that leaves her paralyzed and blind. Despite this, she works as a medium, and Peter Parker reaches out to ask for her help when someone goes missing.
Cassandra has a granddaughter named Charlotte Witter, who later becomes Spider-Woman. She is also connected to Julia Carpenter, who is the second Spider-Woman in the comics and later becomes the new Madame Web.
Who is in the cast for the movie Madame Web?
This is where things get really interesting. Dakota Johnson was the first person to be announced and will be taking on the lead role of Madame Web. It has since been revealed that she's taking on the role of Cassandra Webb, and now these set pics make a little more sense:
Meanwhile, Sydney Sweeney has also been announced as part of the cast as Julia Carpenter while Isabela Merced is taking on the role of Celeste O'Connor.
Meanwhile, Adam Scott and Emma Roberts were recently announced as the latest additions to the ensemble crew. This will mark Emma's first superhero movie after dominating the rom-com, horror, and satire genres over the years. Her range!
What will Madame Web be about?
According to the description of the flick's official trailer, the synopsis is as follows:
"Meanwhile, in another universe…" In a switch from the typical genre, Madame Web tells the standalone origin story of one of Marvel publishing's most enigmatic heroines. The suspense-driven thriller stars Dakota Johnson as Cassandra Webb, a paramedic in Manhattan who may have clairvoyant abilities. Forced to confront revelations about her past, she forges a relationship with three young women destined for powerful futures...if they can all survive a deadly present.
