Dubbed the “Fantasy” collection, it includes unique takes on two signature Vans silhouettes that will be available in limited quantities.
“Designing shoes with Vans was a dream come true. Vans has supported my career from day one, donating shoes for my fashion shows and allowing me to make the most outlandish, sparkly creations. It’s so wonderful to work with a partner who nurtures creativity. I love the idea of transforming quotidian articles into fantasy objects, which is exactly what I did with Vans. I saw the shoes as blank canvases and designed two different worlds within them,” Susan Korn, founder of Susan Alexandra, told FN.
The “Fantasy” 93 DX ($100), commonly referred to as the Vans Mary Jane, features a glittery bubblegum pink upper and satin bow adorned with a delicate rose on the heel counter. The Barbiecore-esque shoe also comes with pink ribbon laces that wearers can tie around the ankle should they feel inspired. Chunky lug rubber, also in pink, outsoles pull the style together.
Meanwhile, Susan Alexandra’s rendition of the classic Old Skool 36 DX ($125) combines a lime green glitter upper with beaded flowers and small round gems that sit just below the pale fluorescent green Side Stripes.
The cheery sneaker also features a purple floral interior and sunny yellow midsoles decorated with vibrant roses, butterflies and bows. Coordinating laces complete the look.
Susan Alexandra is a New York-based accessories brand that has become renowned for its playful and nostalgic handcrafted designs that often include fun charms. Celebrities like Gigi Hadid, Brie Larson, Dakota Fanning, Yara Shahidi and Katy Perry are just some of the brand’s noteworthy fans.
Designer Susan Korn got her start making beaded handbags in her apartment. Today, she has a huge following on Instagram and a flagship store on Orchard Street in Manhattan. This isn’t the brand’s first foray into the footwear world. In 2019, Susan Alexandra teamed up with Champion and Urban Outfitters on a 93Eighteen sneaker featuring colorful fruit detailing throughout.
