are big fans of Thor, and are always here for more God of Thunder content. Lucky for us, Kevin Feige agrees. At San Diego Comic-Con in 2019, we finally learned more about the fourth
Thor
film at the Marvel Cinematic Universe panel. In a sea of new announcements, one thing was clear:
Thor 4
is going to rock our socks off. Here’s everything we’ve learned so far about
. He’ll direct the film and co-write the script with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson. We don’t know many details about the movie just yet, but we presume it will address the end of
Avengers: Endgame,
after Thor left Valkyrie in charge of New Asgard.
We
do
know writer Jason Aaron’s comics for Marvel will inspire the film—and it will feature Jane Foster in a very important role.
In
The Mighty Thor
, Jane Foster suffers from cancer. Every time Jane wields Mjolnir to transform into Thor, she effectively renders her cancer treatments inert, so being a superhero was quite literally killing her. Natalie Portman seemingly confirmed this storyline in an interview with
“I can’t tell you that much. I’m really excited. I’m starting to train, to get muscles. If there can be all these female superheroes, the more of them they are, the better it is. I’m trying to think—it’s based on the graphic novel of
The Mighty Thor
. She’s going through cancer treatment and is a superhero on the side.”

Marvel
Who’s in it?
You can’t have a Thor movie without Chris Hemsworth, who is back to play the Asgardian god once again. Tessa Thompson, who played Valkyrie in
Ragnarok
, is also back. In
Avengers: Endgame
, we learned that she assumed the role of King of Asgard—ruler of the surviving Asgardian population, now residing on Earth—which should provide some fun material. Will Thor regret giving her the mantle, or will he honor his new king without reservations?
And as we mentioned above, Natalie Portman is back as Jane Foster. The actress played the scientist—and love interest of Thor—in the first film and its sequel,
Thor: The Dark World
, but was written out of the MCU shortly thereafter. Though she had a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it-appearance in
Endgame
, her whereabouts have never been clearly defined.
seemingly confirmed this, noting that Star Lord actor Chris Pratt is headed to Australia to film scenes for the film. How big will his part be? Time will tell!
that Christian Bale will play an undisclosed villain in the film. At the Disney shareholders meeting in December 2020, Kevin Feige confirmed that Bale will play Gorr the God Butcher.
According to
Deadline
, Jaimie Alexander will return as Sif in the film. In January 2021, Karen Gillan—who plays Nebula in the MCU—confirmed that she will also appear in
Thor: Love and Thunder
.
Deadline
reported that Russell Crowe will cameo in the film. Matt Damon will also reprise his cameo from
We also got our very first look at the costumes of the main characters in the movie. The Twitter account lovethundernews shared an image of a t-shirt from the crew wrap party and it shows us updated versions of Thor and Valkyrie’s armor, as well as a first look at Jane’s Mighty Thor armor. It looks like Thor’s gone back to a similar look from
The Avengers: Infinity War
, except long hair again, and no sleeves. Suns out, guns out.
